Heaviest swordfish ever caught in Cayman weighs in at The Barcadere

We are excited to tell you about the heaviest swordfish ever caught in the Cayman Islands. The fish was hooked by Jason Begg-Smith, just over the drop off in front of the Ritz Carlton on Wednesday 8th Jan 2012. Kevin Wall, the captain of the 16ft Aluminum boat Catch My Drift and and Jason were out on the water for 14.5 hours before Jason reeled the massive catch in. A second larger boat Captained by Charles Ebanks had to be brought in, as the fish was too big to fit on board Catch My Drift.

The swordfish was brought to weigh station at The Barcadere Marina  on Thursday 9th and was so heavy, that it had to be lifted off the boat with a series of pulleys, much to the excitement of the gathering crowds.

We would like to congratulate Jason Begg-Smith on his catch which weighed in on an 80 pound test line at 392 pounds, making this – the heaviest swordfish ever caught in the Cayman Islands.
